Voodoo Doughnut Austin -whimsical & weird doughnut shop.
Today was a good day. I had Voodoo Doughnut Austin. The Portland doughnut shop has opened up their latest location right here in the heart of downtown on 6th street.
This beloved doughnut shop is one of the magical things that makes Portland so special. And for a city that rivals Austin in weirdness, it makes sense why they choose Austin to open up their 7th location.
With doughnuts like their newest creation the Pot Hole Doughnut, Cream filled chololate bar with Oreos topped with a trail of frosting, one simply can’t go wrong at Voodoo Doughnut.
Prior to opening, this whimsical and weird doughnut shop was delighting Austinites with pop ups as they prepared and trained for their halloween weekend opening.
You can follow along on their Facebook where they’re pretty active with the Austin community already. If you caught them open before their official launch, consider yourself lucky.
I’ve been to the original location in Portland a couple of times and that in and of itself is a ritual one just has to do. But the Austin location has its own unique charm with giant tree like panels with doughnuts hanging from the branches. A large neon American Flag is fixed to the wall. And best of all, it’s only a couple of blocks away from my office!
I’d been checking the Voodoo Facebook page in anticipation of catching one of their pop ups since I was going to be out of town for Halloween in Austin. And when I saw that they were open at 7am one weekday morning until sold out, I knew it was my chance to go.
A couple of doughnuts later and I can happily say that Voodoo is going to fit in nicely here in Austin. I ordered the Voodoo doughnut- raised yeast doughnut filled with raspberry jelly topped with chocolate frosting and a pretzel stake, and a Captain My Captain doughnut- a vanilla doughnut with vanilla frosting topped with captain crunch. But my most favorite was the Butterfingering doughnut- a chocolate cake doughnut with vanilla frosting and Butterfinger crumbles.
Talk about a kid in a candy shop!
Hope you get to try some Voodoo doughnuts in Austin soon!
If you go, please tell them Dine With Shayda sent you! And let me know what was your favorite thing about it @dinewithshayda.
