Who: Venezia Gelato
What: An Authentic Italian Gelato Parlor
When: Tuesday to Thursday 4pm – 11pm, Friday to Saturday 12pm – 12am, Sunday 12pm – 11pm, Closed Monday
Where: 1701 S Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78704
Why: I’ve never been to Italy, but I have fond memories of visiting my uncle in Amsterdam and hanging out at this gelato shop next to his Pizzeria. I remember going every day twice a day during my time there. Waffle cone, and two scoops, please! It’s obviously European, and when I eat it, that’s where I feel like I am transported to.
There’s something satisfying about gelato, for one it’s a little (not that much, but enough) better for you than traditional ice cream. It’s made with more milk than cream, giving it less fat. It’s usually made with fresh ingredients with no artificial flavors or colors and is made fresh in small batches.
Now Austin can say that it has a little piece of Italy thanks to couple and co-owners Alice and Nicola Morello. The couple studied at the prestigious International School of Gelato in Rimini, Italy and then moved to Austin to specifically open up their gourmet Italian gelato parlor.
In the store, you can expect to see 15+ rotating flavors that are made in house with seasonal fresh ingredients like berries, passion fruit, and cherries. They also offer these picture perfect Mr. Ring gelato pops that are essentially gelato shaped rings dipped in a light sugar coating. It makes the gelato look like donuts on a stick and they are as fun to eat as they are to look at!
It’s such an adorable shop with plenty of inside seating, some outside seating, and free parking. But heads up the lot is small so you might have to park in an adjacent lot and walk over.
I hope next time you’re craving a frozen treat you come say hi to Alice and Nicola, they would love to meet you and share their passion of gelato making with you. And as always, be sure to tell them Dine With Shayda sent you. Follow my daily food adventures on Instagram and Snapchat at @DineWithShayda.
Travel often, Make every meal count, and go for the second scoop of gelato!
