Searsucker – Austin, Texas

Searsucker -downtown warehouse district local hang out.

Searsucker is Celebrity Chef Brian Malarkey’s New American Classic restaurant. With restaurants in Del Mar, Las Vegas, San Diego and Austin, Texas (at 4th and Colorado) there are multiple ways to enjoy Searsucker. The motto of the restaurant is “come early, stay late.” With a very open and laid back vibe encouraging you to come in for happy hour, business lunch or even fancy dinner. Searsucker wants to be your go to local hangout spot. Located in the heart of Downtown Austin’s warehouse district, it is the perfect place for just that.

With Big audacious decor and a very obvious layout of an old warehouse, the space comes together quite nicely to offer lots of room to mingle, relax and get lost in the food. With large garage door type windows at the front of the restaurant, in the summer months they open up and you have this beautiful blend of indoor outdoor space. And because it is an american style restaurant, you will find american decor like large longhorns, cowhide chairs, and boldly painted walls.

Walking towards the dining part of the restaurant you pass the beautifully decorated bar, perfect for a drink before dinner. Again, the high ceilings and wide layout make this a really welcoming place that you instantly feel comfortable in. I always enjoy coming here because of it’s impressive layout, my guests are always charmed by the oversized lampshades and open tables.

I know when I come to Searsucker I’m not going to get bogged down by a huge menu with overwhelming choices. But rather a simple yet tasteful menu full of american classics with new twists. It’s easy to find something you like here, and I always know that it is going to be fresh and delicious.

I also enjoy the personality that comes through at Searsucker, and it is the little things like the quote that adorns the bottom of all their menu’s. Reading from Vanilla Ice, “If there was a problem, Yo, I’ll solve it. Check out the hook while my DJ resolves it.”

Now onto why we are all here, the food. Some of my favorite things on their menu are the shishito blistered peppers, and the farmbird lollipops (which are basically chicken skewers- but the best ones you’ll ever have). Oh, and you can’t pass up their house pickles!

When it comes to the main course, my go to is the BBQ pork sandwich with peach kale slaw, baconaise on a buttermilk bun. Some other favorites are the Blackened salmon sandwich and the Sir Searsucker Burger!

I opted for the BBQ Pork and added a side of their freshly made garlic fries.

It is quite a treat to dine at Searsucker, they really take customer service to the next level. Bringing you complimentary double chocolate chip cookies with the bill is just another sweet way they like to delight their guests.

It’s these reasons and more why Searsucker gets praise in my book. It really is a great spot if you want to grab drinks before heading down to 6th street. Or in my case the perfect spot to grab lunch with a business partner. (As it is only a block from our office!) Next time you’re in the warehouse district give Searsucker a try, I don’t think you will be disappointed.  And tell them Dine With Shayda sent you.
