Second Bar and Kitchen is no stranger to Austin. In fact their original location at 2nd and Congress is pretty much a staple in the bustling heart of downtown Austin food scene. But their second location is nestled in up and coming North Austin’s Domain neighborhood.
I don’t know if I’ve ever shared this with y’all, but I grew up in North Austin, before the Domain was here, when it was just a stretch of empty undeveloped land across from IBM. I remember growing up and hearing people remark how one day there would be shopping centers, restaurants and a nightlife scene and to be honest, I was a non-believer. Fast forward through the last decade (the Domain opened in 2007) and it’s clear that this part of Austin is here to stay!
What I love about Second Bar and Kitchen is that while they offer a unique brunch menu they also brought a lot of their tried and true items to the table. We ordered Steak and Eggs, which came out with beautiful flank cut steak layered with home fries, an over easy egg, and topped with a chimichurri sauce. But we also were able to order their Black and Bleu pizza, which like I said is on the menu *all the time*, made with black truffle, bleu cheese, pork belly, medjool dates, and red onion.
Some of my go to items on their menu aside from the pizza and egg dishes are the french fries, especially if you get the truffle fries. The shishito peppers are always on the menu and even on the happy hour menu! And probably one of my favorite things on their menu is the Gin + Jam, made with Herbaceous Gin, Lillet Rose, and served with a spoonful of their house strawberry and hot pepper jam. Perfect drink anytime.
This location is right in the heart of shopping, so you’re a quick walk to Nordstrom, Sephora, the Apple store and many more. Or if you’re looking for a staycation, SBK is the featured restaurant of Archer Hotel. Pretty much anything you need to do, you’ve got it all in Domain’s Northside!
Hopefully if you need a brunch spot next time you’re in the Domain, you’ll think of Second Bar and Kitchen, and have a piece of that pizza for me!
