Pike Place Chowder -perfect dish for lunch and dinner.

When traveling to Seattle, I had one thing on my mind- seafood. And if you asked me what the second thing on my mind was, it would be chowder. I’m a sucker for a thick soup mixed in with seafood and yummy bits of veggies. It’s the perfect dish for lunch and dinner. Pike Place Chowder in Seattle has THE VERY BEST.

Pike Place Chowder opened in 2003 in Pike Place market, but the story started long before the brick and mortar opened up serving their famous chowder. You see the owner and founder Larry Mellum opened a cafe in West Seattle in 1991 where they offered a soup of the day and every Friday would be Clam Chowder.

After a friendly challenge of who had the best clam chowder recipe from Larry to his line cooks, they let the customers be the deciding factor on whose was best, and it was clear after droves of customers lined up for one winning recipe. Thanks to one of Larry’s cooks, this Seattle Chowder shop has brought happiness to people ever since.

The two restaurants have different menus, but if you’re looking for the famous clam chowder you can get it at both. We decided to check out their Pacific Place Center location which is in Downtown Seattle (But honestly, you could hit up both if you’re curious. They’re only a 10 minute walk from each other.) because we were already in the area. It’s located inside a shopping mall in the popular shopping district. We were out shopping that night and were pleased when we saw the restaurant calling to us with it’s beautiful sign saying ‘Chowder.’

Walking in it was busy, you could tell that people were enjoying their meals. My mouth was watering as we waited in the short line to place our orders. We ordered bread bowls, fried cod, fried green beans, fish tacos, seafood stew and of course a few of their chowders.

The food came out quickly and we pretty much just dove in (after I took all my pictures of course). Everything we put in our mouth was heavenly and everyone left happy and full. We loved our meal so much that we had to go back and eat it one more time before we left Seattle.

I absolutely love Pike Place Chowder and if you go to Seattle, you must try it. Tell then Dine With Shayda sent you, and then tell me what you think! And come to think of it, I really enjoyed Seattle. Lots of great places to eat at.
