Pieous -woodfired oven and fresh made mozzarella from scratch.
I am on a hunt to find an awesome good pizza in Austin, and I think I found a serious contender in Pieous Pizza. Pieous is a pizza, sandwich and sweet pie shop located off Hwy 290 West in Austin. We had heard such good things, but boy were we in for a treat.
Pieous is known for their “Verace Pizza Napoletana” which means they hold an award for Authentic Italian Pizza. To obtain the award you have to master the Italian techniques of making and handling dough, preparing fresh ingredients, making cheese (which they do, house made Mozarella!) and baking the pizzas in their wood-fired oven.
It takes 60-90 seconds to bake a pizza, and the oven can get as hot as 900 degrees. Which means more delicious pizzas for you and me to enjoy.
It was a really unique space, all the walls were covered in chalk board and had written out words of inspiration, or fun facts about Pieous. And despite there being a line out the door, it moved quickly because of how fast they are able to put pizza pies out.
We wanted to try a little bit of everything and since we had a big enough group, we decided to sit on the patio as our feast began to arrive on the table.
In total for 7 people we ordered 3 pizzas and a Pieous Plate which was about a pound of pastrami with two kinds of mustards and house made pickles.
Pictured below is the glorious pastrami, they offer juicy and lean, and we asked for half and half so we could try both. And next to the Pious Platter was a Fat Queen made with soppressata, sausage, and lots of pepperoni.
The one with all the arugula on it is called The Rocket, made with arugula, prosciutto, and a white sauce base.
This was by far one of our favorites. With the fresh crunch of arugula and the thinly sliced prosciutto. Perfecto!
Their pizzas are about 12″ and can easily be split against two people, they have fresh pastrami sandwiches as well as an assortment of home made pies and puddings for your liking.
When you go, tell them Dine With Shayda sent you! And let me know what you liked best. @dinewithshayda.
