Why: I am so glad that more restaurants are beginning to feature menu’s focused around eating food made with the highest quality ingredients. Plus when the food tastes amazing it almost makes it too easy to eat healthy, which makes it all the more reason to indulge!
Picnik is a restaurant that offers a simple but diverse menu of food and beverages that are made with local and organic ingredients, and they never serve anything with gluten, soy or corn. They first opened up off of S. Lamar in a shipping container, but recently opened a brick and mortar off Burnet Road.
When you first enter the space you’ll notice there is a to go counter that serves breakfast and lunch as well as coffee and juice. So if you’re in a hurry you can still feel good about what you’re feeding your body and pop in for some Picnik on the go.
If you’re style is to sit down and chill, you can be seated inside or choose to sit outside on the covered patio for al fresco dining. The menu features dishes like Orange Chicken and Broccoli made with crispy chicken, orange-honey glaze, broccoli, green beans and sesame seeds. And Seared Meatloaf with chipotle ketchup, wilted greens and a cauliflower mash. We tried the market fish which happened to be salmon, served on a bed of quinoa. And their chili served with an added poached egg, it was hearty, flavorful and paleo!
There is also a breakfast menu which features pancakes, harvest hash, breakfast rissoto and quiche. And remember it is all gluten free and made with fresh, local veggies!
Picnik is also known for serving some unique menu items like butter coffee and bone broth. Butter coffee, also known as Bulletproof coffee, is made with grass-fed butter, MCT oil and grass-fed collagen protein. It basically helps supercharge your brain function and create effortless fat loss with no cravings. Bone broth is also known to have restorative properties and helps put collagen back into your bones. These items go hand in hand with Picnik’s intention to provide healthy, good for you and your brain, food.
This is the type of place where you can get a great meal and feel good about eating it. The space is light and airy and seriously perfect for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I really hope you’ll come visit them at their new brick and mortar off Burnet Road, and when you go be sure to tell them Dine With Shayda sent you!
