Why: South Congress is an iconic street in Austin. It’s hard to not want to spend time there shopping, eating and just simply relaxing. A new addition to the district is a stunningly beautiful South Congress Hotel, which with its opening revealed a few new restaurants that are honestly some of my favorite in the city.
One, in particular, is Central Standard. It’s a New American and Seafood styled restaurant that features a wood grill called a Hearth. It features a tiled out bar, lots of indoor and outdoor space, private event space, and a wrap around patio to give you a perfect setting no matter the occasion.
I recently was invited to Central Standard to try some items off their menu, and my eyes lit up because I’ve never had a bad meal here and I was excited to be wined and dined at one of my favorite places.
We started the meal off by sitting on their side patio which extends into the South Congress Hotel courtyard. It offers an intimate dining experience which I love especially when I’m about to get all food blogger up in the food! That and I needed as much lighting as possible that afternoon.
Because they’re known for their grill and their seafood/raw bar, we knew we had to order things that highlighted that.
Some of our favorites were the Lobster mac and cheese, it just sounds so decadent that whenever I see it on a menu I have to dive in. And the fresh east coast oysters from the raw bar, which are also offered on their happy hour (Mon-Fri: 5-7pm) menu for $2.75 each.
From the main menu we went with the Texas Redfish and the Filet Mignon. Something that is excellent that we didn’t order but that I’ve had before is their burger, which you can get for $10 on the happy hour menu too!
I think the ambiance paired with the quality and excellence of the menu is what makes Central Standard such a great choice whether you’re looking to celebrate a special occasion, or grab a bite to eat on a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon.
