PDQ -casual fried chicken chain focused on fresh food fast.
PDQ (People Dedicated to Quality) is a new kid in town. Hailing from Tampa, Florida, this fast casual fried chicken chain is focused on fresh food fast.
Opening up restaurants from Florida to New Jersey, PQD has recently been making investments in the Austin area and I was invited for a tour of their newly opened restaurant in Cedar Park (Lakeline and Hwy 183) by their Operating Director Justin Heagerty.
PDQ is great because they offer a really different atmosphere compared to other fast food restaurants. There’s a huge patio on the front of the restaurant, and inside, the kitchen is very open concept so you can see everything that’s going on.
I got the opportunity to tour their kitchen and hear about what makes PDQ a unique twist on fast food. Justin was pointing out the potato cutter where they hand cut potatoes daily into french fries, then they go through a 7 level bath wash before settling and being fried. Makes for some pretty tasty fresh french fries.
PDQ also doesn’t have any freezers. Everything is made fresh daily (sometimes weekly depending on the product).
Salad Dressings and dipping sauces are house made and portioned out with expiration dates on them to make sure customers are getting the freshest experience when they dine at PDQ.
A closeup of the delicious PDQ Chicken Strips, which start out as chicken breasts that get cleaned, battered and fried. They were really good and knowing that PDQ goes the extra mile to offer fresh fast food at a quality price means I can go to PDQ when I’m in a hurry. I know that I’m getting something prepared with better intention over other fast food options where you don’t know what kind of food they’re feeding you whether it’s processed or frozen.
A full spread of what we were able to get for two people included the chicken strips with Creamy Garlic, Honey BBQ and Sweet Sriracha. The Sweet Sriracha was my favorite, a little tangy and perfect dip for the chicken strips. We also got the buffalo chicken sandwich, which had two crispy chicken tenders on a brioche bun with lettuce and buffalo bleu sauce. We also had handspun strawberry milkshake, fresh squeezed lemonade, blueberry coleslaw, and one of my favorite things on their menu, fresh sliced apples with a toffee dip. It was so good, and the perfect way to end our meal.
Great meal at a great price!
