Moonshine – Austin, Texas

Moonshine -a perfect place to share a southern meal.

Being from the South I have a love affair with Southern cooking. That also means I’m always looking for ways to get comfort food without spending hours in the kitchen. Plus you all already know how much I enjoy going out. And Moonshine Grill is the perfect place for big groups to get together and share a meal.

Being from Austin means that Moonshine is just the type of place I like to hanging out with friends while eating at one of the most historic places in the city.

Located right behind the Austin Convention Center on Red River, the building is a part of one of the very first commercial businesses in Austin called the Waterloo Compound. It also operated as a store, saloon and winery during Prohibition. Pretty cool to be eating in a building that was built during Austin’s early years as a stomping ground. For more details on the history of Moonshine you can read all about it here.

When you go to Moonshine, they’ll bring out fresh warm popcorn topped with spices.  They’re also known for an appetizer called “Corndog” Shrimp, and they pair it with a blueberry honey mustard sauce. This is a must when ordering.

And because I love a good burger, I had to try the Pimento cheeseburger made with 100% Angus beef, pimento cheese, bacon, red leaf lettuce and red onions. It’s a big burger and the pimento cheese gives it a nice savory flavor.

Other things you can find on their menu include Dr. Pepper BBQ Sauce Chicken, Shrimp & Grits, Peached Glazed Pork Chops and a White Chocolate Bread Pudding for dessert.

Hope you get to enjoy Moonshine and a little piece of Austin history.
