Maiko is a hip and inviting sushi and sashimi bar in Austin, Texas off 6th street, it also happens to be a stones throw from our offices, so we find ourselves eating Maiko quite a bit! We love it, it’s perfect for a team lunch, or a hot night out on the town. Often gathering large lines during peak times, if you get to slink into one of their booths, consider yourself lucky!
It’s a pretty large interior once you get inside, ample natural lighting lights the place up due to the floor to ceiling windows that peek out onto 6th street.
And of course what post about a sushi bar wouldn’t be complete without seeing the sushi bar. Sit and watch as master sushi chefs prepare fresh seafood like their infamous red dragon roll, made with asparagus tempura, crab stick, and avocado roll topped with spicy tuna.
Or what about the Texas Monster made with shrimp tempura, avocado, jalapeno roll, topped with sliced tuna, and tequila lime sauce.
I love their sushi and I promise to post pictures of that next time I pop in, but one of their tastiest lunch items is their bento boxes. I love the Chicken Teriyaki box, with fried rice, Californian roll, gyoza, spring roll, and a yummy salad with a crisp citrus dressing.
Be say to make friends with the owner, he’s a sweet guy who has a passion for bringing a Texas flare to Japanese food. Let me know what you end up ordering in the comments!
