Who: The Local Post
What: Local Austin Pub and Restaurant
When: 11am to 2am every day, Happy Hour 3pm to 7pm every day
Where: 7113 Burnet Rd, Austin, TX 78757
Why: When I say the words 10lb can of nachos and your mouth begins to water, isn’t that enough? It should be, but I’ll keep going.
The Local Post is a new bar/restaurant/hangout place with tons of indoor and outdoor seating that is perfect for just about anything. Think birthday celebrations with your large group of friends on the patio, or a small group of buddies getting together for burgers and beer while you catch a game. They even have a whole section to arcade type games, which makes The Local Post a perfect place to relax and unwind.
It’s the latest venture from Union Venture Group, who also owns Domain bars 77 Degrees and St. Genevieve. Union Venture took over the former Dallas Nightclub space, which was a popular Burnet Road destination from 1981 to 2015 when it shut its doors.
While it’s no longer a night club, they do offer excellent drink specials 3-7pm daily, and have a baller menu that is reason enough to come give them a visit.
Some highlights for me from the menu were the 10lb can of nachos, just the presentation alone is reason enough to order it. They basically present you with a large tin can that is clearly stuffed with meats, cheese, and things like jalapenos and tomatoes. Out comes a piping hot mini can of queso and the show begins. They douse it, and then begin to lift the large can and out pours your cheesy chippy goodness. I easily could have killed the whole can, I didn’t, but I almost did. So you can share, but you might not want to.
I also really enjoyed the cheddar burger, I opted for an egg because, duh. And it came with curly fries which is my absolute favorite fry cut! Lastly, we went with a chimichanga,
Lastly, we went with a chimichanga, my rule of thumb is if it is something the kitchen is known for then you gotta order it. And at The Local Post it’s the nachos and the chimichangas. So chimichanga we did. Holy hell, it was good. Perfectly deep fried, topped with a nice meaty sauce, and spicy. It sure was spicy. Just how I like it.
The Local Post is really a fun way to kick back and I love that it’s a new addition to the Burnet Road scene. If you’re in the area, I recommend you check it out, and if you’re not in the area, seriously. Go for the nachos!
