From ELM Restaurant group, the makers of Italic, Easy Tiger and 24 Diner, comes what I’m positive will be your new go-to spot in Austin.
Irene’s, is a come as you are, take things to go or stay for a while kind of joint. It’s mellow, laid back, and serves some serious good food. Which I wouldn’t expect anything less coming from Chef Drew Curren and team, but Irene’s has exceeded my expectations.
One step inside and you’re transported. With bold wooden fixtures like the 18 seater bar top, to the bakery/ to-go window that serves you both inside and out. The restaurant is focused on hospitality, giving patrons lots of ways to indulge at Irene’s.
You’ll be able to order beer, wine, and craft cocktails from one of two bars. And then depending on how you’re feeling you can choose to sit on one of their many patios. My favorite is the front patio which wraps around the front and side of the restaurant, it’s great for people watching and enjoying the bustling Downtown neighborhood.
On the menu, you’ll find sweet and savory toasts, order one of everything and you won’t be disappointed. They’re thick cut slices of Easy Tiger bread toasted and topped with yummy things like mascarpone and peaches or avocado, feta and fresh cherry tomatoes. My mouth is watering just thinking of our last meal there.
For two people we split two pieces of toast, one sweet and one savory, an appetizer like the pigs in blankets, and the pulled chicken and avocado sandwich. It was just enough food and we both left full!
There will be daily specials that you’ll want to come check out as soon as possible. They’ll start serving at 11am and go until they run out.
Sunday: BBQ chicken, Monday: Red Beans & Rice, Tuesday: Shepherd’s Pie or Chicken Pot Pie, Wednesday: Pork Chop, Thursday: Pot Roast, Friday: Burger, and Saturday: King Ranch Chicken.
Another thing to point out is the to-go window. Starting at 7am you’ll be able to order coffee, pastries, and sandwiches to go. They’ll even be selling cigarettes for those of you who need a drag with your morning coffee.
I’ve fallen so in love with Irene’s, and I can not wait to go back and bring a group of friends. It’s got plenty of space for small to big parties, and they want you to hang out for a while. So take Irene up on her offer, come see her, and tell them Dine With Shayda sent you!
