Hotel Ella Tailgate Event -this fancy tailgate lived up to its name.
Growing up in Austin, the Texas Longhorns are pretty much royalty. Which means tailgating is a tried and true tradition of drinking, eating and cheering on the Horns. And in all my years living in Austin, I had never actually been to a proper tailgate. At least until this Hotel Ella Tailgate Event.
Hotel Ella is a beautiful restored and historic Texas hotel right in the heart of the UT campus that has roots as deep as the University of Texas. “The site was purchased in 1878 by Thomas Dudley Wooten, one of the founders of the University of Texas. Wooten’s son, Goodall, married wife Ella shortly after, and the couple moved into a new home on the property in 1900. Ella was known for her style, hospitality and culinary skill – setting the standard for which Hotel Ella will operate.”
During the UT football season, Hotel Ella hosts tailgate events in their front lawn for $50 which includes valet parking, food buffet, dessert bar, and an open bar featuring wines, beers and spirits. Oh and not to forget included are shuttles to and from the stadium. They call them fancy tailgates and it certainly lived up to the name.
We ate brisket chili and jalapeño cornbread, courtesy of the on site restaurant Goodall’s Kitchen which makes all the food for their events on site fresh daily. The weather finally started to cool up and so the chili was the perfect snack as we prepared to cheer on the horns. The bar featured Deep Eddy cocktails, beer, wine and High Brew, one of the sponsors so they had plenty of Cold Brew coffee to go around.
Wearing our fanciest boots, and some burnt orange, I brought my little sister who is currently going to school at the University of Texas. Sydney from Fitness blog SpinSyddy. We ate, we drank, and we partied with some fellow Longhorns at one of the best tailgate parties in Austin!
