Who: Flower Child
What: A health conscious bohemian café with a focus on organic produce & natural, additive-free proteins.
When: 11am – 9pm Everyday
Where: Domain Northside, 11721 Rock Rose B100, Austin, TX 78758
Why: Eating healthy shouldn’t mean you sacrifice taste and flavor. And at Flower Child, you won’t have to! This health-conscious restaurant is a Phoenix transplant who recently opened their doors in Domain Northside next to their sister restaurant Culinary Dropout.
When you come to Flower Child you’re not getting pretentious health food, in fact, you’re getting quite the opposite. Think hearty vegetables cooked in the freshest way possible to preserve all their nutrients and flavors. You can order salads, like the Winter Sunshine, made with arugula, butternut squash, organic apple, clementine, ancient grains, cranberry, goat cheese, sprouted almond, and a chia seed vinaigrette. Or you can order one of their warm bowls, like the Mother Earth bowl, made with ancient grains, sweet potato, portobello mushroom, avocado, cucumber, broccoli pesto, leafy greens, red pepper miso vinaigrette, and hemp seed.
Or you can order one of their warm bowls, like the Mother Earth bowl, made with ancient grains, sweet potato, portobello mushroom, avocado, cucumber, broccoli pesto, leafy greens, red pepper miso vinaigrette, and hemp seed. For an extra charge, you can add protein like all-natural chicken, grass-fed steak, sustainable salmon, or organic non-gmo tofu.
They’ve got kombucha and cold brew coffee on tap, and you should definitely save room to try one of their house-made lemonades and teas which rotate out seasonally. A great one to try right now is the apple-cinnamon lemonade, it tastes exactly like you’re drinking an apple pie!
The vibe is upbeat, bright, and comfortable. There is a nice shady wraparound patio perfect for lounging with a book and a cup of coffee paired with their tasty avocado toast. I loved that everything at Flower Child seems to be “Exposed”, which to me is in line with their point of view on serving food that doesn’t just taste good but is also good for you. You can see directly into the kitchen as they prep your meal and everyone is so knowledgeable about everything on the menu, you really feel like you can make smart choices without compromising a delicious dining experience.
I’ve become obsessed with this little corner of the Domain Northside, and think you will be too. It’s the perfect place to grab breakfast with the girlfriends, or a solo lunch with a good book. Add this one to your must visit list asap!
What to order there: They’re not on the menu, but you can order coconut water tapped fresh from a coconut. It’s refreshing, and fun, and a special treat to have at brunch!
