Why: Grand Lux is an upscale casual cafe that serves global cuisine and features an in-house bakery whipping up delectable desserts inspired by European cafes.

The very first Grand Lux was in Las Vegas in the Venitian Hotel, with the opulence of Vegas, the cafe is now notably known by it’s grand leather and wood fixtures, and glass chandeliers. Now with over 200 locations, the Domain Austin is the first to open in this city.

We were invited to check out the new location in The Domain and decided to pop in for lunch. It was already packed and busy as they were running a soft opening when we stopped by. The meal began with a recommendation from our waitress, she suggested we not pass on the Asian Nachos, and we were grateful for the nudge. Not that you have to tell me twice to order something made with crispy wontons and chicken covered in a peanut sauce, but with so many other good things on the menu it was hard to choose.

For my main course I went with a Caramel Chicken, it had a lot of bell peppers and veggies and when it came out, the presentation was this tower of chicken tenders atop a bed of rice. It was glorious and felt absolutely like heaven shining a halo down on my plate. I will say, the portions here are huge, so either come hungry or plan to take leftovers home.

Another highlight of our meal was the dessert. It read warm butter cake, and my eyes said yes immediately. It was just as the caption described, warm and full of buttery cake goodness. We loved that The Grand Lux Cafe has an open bakery, on our way out we walked by them preparing said aforementioned delicious dessert, and almost asked for seconds. Almost, I’m trying to be good. Kind of.

This place is very grand and yet very welcoming. You can come here in a group or on your own and nestle into a table and enjoy a great meal.
