Eastside Cafe -rotating chef’s specials daily with local harvests.

An Austinite all my life and this place snuck by my radar. In my defense the city has so many amazing restaurants that sometimes it takes a sweet friend to suggest a not so hidden gem to give new life to something that has become a staple in Austin. There’s that old Texas saying that I think fits with this, something like “I may not have been to Eastside Cafe before, but I got there as soon as I could.”

Eastside Cafe

And I can’t wait to go back!

Eastside Cafe is Elaine Martin’s restaurant of 27 years. On the same property as Elaine’s (Martin’s pie shop), the two are a match made in heaven. Eastside Cafe is situated inside an old reclaimed Austin house, where you dine in each of the many rooms of the home. There is a garden on the property where Elaine and her team harvest local produce and edible flowers for their dishes, creating this beautiful space where garden to table come together in a serendipitous way.

Eastside Cafe is perfect for brunch, lunch, and dinner with rotating chef’s specials daily. We went for dinner and enjoyed the “made from scratch” jalapeño cornbread and split the brie and apple chutney for an appetizer. My friend ordered the chef’s special which was a shrimp taco of the day, and I had the East Side Classic, grilled meatloaf with Shiner Bock beer tomato sauce on top. And if you don’t order the acorn squash, you’re missing out!

The portions were hearty, the food was flavorful and comforting. And to know that so much heart goes into the meals makes it that much more special.

Oh and on Monday’s, enjoy half off bottles of wine from 4pm-close. So you really have no reason not to try out Eastside Cafe!

And be sure to tell them Dine With Shayda send you!
