Distillery tour with award winning Vodka and Gin from Dripping Springs

Looking for something fun to do over the weekend, my sister and I took a day trip to Dripping Springs to give one of their distilleries a tour and enjoy a tasting. We like drinking Dripping Springs Vodka and Gin (it’s so smooth– perfect for sipping!), so when we found out their distillery offered weekend and weekday tours we decided to check them out one Saturday.

You can order tickets online and tours are offered either Thursday or Saturday for $10 per person. All tours include a tour of the distillery, tasting of their 5 products – 1876 Vodka, Dripping Springs Vodka, Dripping Springs Orange Vodka, Dripping Springs Artisan Gin and Dripping Springs Traditional Gin, and a souvenir shot glass. There are limited times so definitely check their website before you head on out.

They specialize in five* distinct products, and depending on when you go on the tour you’ll see any one of them being handcrafted that day. In the tour we got to see the copper tanks which are used to micro distill each batch 20 times in small 50 batch gallons. We saw the bottling process as well as the labeling process. It’s pretty cool to see how alcohol gets made because it is as much about art as it is about science. They are an Award Winning Vodka and Gin after all, handcrafted in small batches that really shows attention to detail for their craft. Most recently the Gin winning Gold at the 2016 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

We learned that the vodka and gin are made with pure, mineral-rich artesian spring water from the Texas Hill Country which is then slow filtered through Swedish activated carbon. To specifically get the flavors of the gin and orange vodka, they are steeped in natural fresh ingredients like orange zest and juniper berries. We saw a peak at the gin distilling with a nice big bag of real juniper berries floating in the mixture. It smelled so heavenly, and it was neat to see and hear how they get their flavors from real ingredients compared to other products who use artificial flavors.

Their gin is a juniper forward traditional London dry gin, with soft floral notes, spice and fresh citrus from the Texas Rio Grande Valley. Dripping Springs products are also non-GMO, gluten free, and certified Kosher.

After the tour we enjoyed a tasting of each product. They gave us generous shots of each to sample the drink. We enjoyed all of them with Gin being our ultimate favorite, we liked it so much we took a bottle home for the road (which you can and should do when you go!)

If you’ve ever been curious about how Vodka and Gin is made, hope you can make it out to their Distillery and take a tour. And if you can’t there are plenty of other places, even some outside of Texas where you can get their product.
