The acai bowl is a Brazilian tradition called acaí na tigela meaning acaí in the bowl. It’s made with frozen and mashed acaí fruit and is served as a smoothie in a bowl usually topped with granola and banana. Blenders and Bowls is a local Austin Acaí bowl shop which serves up six different flavors of the yummy dish.
Owners Kara and Erin are the two friends behind Blenders and Bowls, who started the company after having the craving for the bowls and realized there was an opportunity to bring the treat to Austin.
I love their bowls and started thinking what the different flavors meant and what makes me crave them. So I decided to play a “What does my acai bowl say about me” featuring:
This bowl is called the OG for a reason, it’s made with the basics because the basics are the best. Strawberries, bananas, and apple juice make this bowl taste like a traditional strawberry-banana smoothie. It’s like your favorite pair of sneakers and a t-shirt, you feel comfortable and confident. It’s ok to be OG because you’re the original.
I like the amount of bananas and strawberries there are, I personally love to mix everything up so I get a little piece of everything in every bite.
This is the bowl I mostly self-identify with, I don’t know if it’s because it’s so pretty or because it makes me feel like I’m being transported to a private island. It’s made with pineapple, coconut shreds, mangos, and dragon fruit which gives the bowl a bright fuschia color that just screams tropical paradise. I always feel like I’m a bite away from being transported to a beach and eating this bowl is as close as I’ll get some days. Good thing Blenders and Bowls is right around the corner from my office!
My added joy with this bowl are the goji berries on top, it gives it a nice crunch that I crave.
What makes the chill bowl so great is the blueberries. This is the perfect bowl if you’re in the mood to just relax and enjoy some me time. The flavors remind me of the fruit trifecta- strawberries, blueberries, and bananas. And when I want to treat myself to something yummy after a long day, this is the perfect way to unwind and just chill out.
If you’re like me and your chill day consists of photographing my food, this is also a beautiful and vibrant bowl that is perfect for the job. And yummy in your belly too!
This is the bowl I need after a good gym sesh, which is probably why it’s called The Sesher. Fuel up with bananas, peanut butter, and chocolate hemp milk to give you the energy you need after you just worked your little heart out.
Plus the toppings are also perfect to give you a yummy crunchy bite made with crushed cashews, raisins and cacao nibs. Theres something about working out so hard that your treat is chocolate, and that it’s good for you. Whether that’s true or not, I say it is so, and suggest you grab The Sesher next time you kick your workouts booty!
So what about you, what are your favorite acaí bowl flavors? Do you find yourself gravitating towards a specific bowl based on your mood, or what about the weather? I’d love to hear your thoughts and hope you’ll share them with me @dinewithshayda. And give Blenders and Bowls a visit and let them know Dine With Shayda sent you!
