Austin Trail of Lights 2015

The holidays are upon us in Austin, and if you’ve spent any time in this wonderful city you know the Trail of Lights have been a holiday staple for years. In fact as an Austin native, I can’t think back to a year when my family and I haven’t celebrated the Christmas season at the Trail of Lights. (Keep reading, Giveaway of a ZiP pass, details to enter below.)

It’s magical, and brings back so many wonderful memories of spinning under the Zilker tree, smelling and feeling the warmth from the beautiful Yule Log, and most of all enjoying the spectacular lights with the Austin skyline as the backdrop.

I was so fortunate to get to experience the trail before it opened to the public during a special Blogger preview night and what a fabulous time to get to enjoy the trail. I invited my family out to share in the occasion with me and we took pictures with Santa*, ate funnel cakes, and just enjoyed being in each others company.

The Austin Trail of Lights and Zilker Tree are lit and the Grand Opening of the trail is TONIGHT! The event will end on Dec 22, so be sure to load up the family, and head downtown for one of Austin’s most spectacular holiday experiences.

Taking over Zilker Park, the trail is adorned by hundreds of thousands of lights, character cut outs, Christmas music, the Zilker Tree, and even a few recent additions like the Carousel and the Ferris Wheel.

The event ranges from free to $3, to $15 depending on the night you want to attend and the access you want to the trail. General Admission is free 12/8-12/15 and $3 per person 12+ 12/16-12/22. The $15 is a ZiP pass  (price is per person) which allows the ticket holder access to the trail an hour before it opens to the general public!

For those of you planning on attending, please check out the schedule here, and check out the FAQ to make sure your trip is as enjoyable as possible.

Since the Trail of Lights is very popular, I forewarn you to plan accordingly. It’s a trail so you’re walking, it’s at night so the temperature can drop, and most of the food vendors and rides take cash so make sure you are prepared when visiting the Trail of Lights.

If you’re curious like me to learn more about the amazing history of the Trail of Lights, you can read more here.

Until then, Merry Christmas from my family to yours! Hope you get out to enjoy the trail.
