Why: Quality tacos in the heart of downtown Austin? Check! Austin Taco Project is the newest restaurant to open up inside the Hilton Austin Downtown, and they’re not your typical taco joint.
It’s upscale but eclectic, the perfect place to pop in for a bite when you’re visiting Austin, or just happen to be in the neighborhood. What you’ll find on the menu are perfectly crafted cocktails, an array of tacos ranging from traditional to fusion, and a whole lotta good vibes.
The restaurant is situated right off east 4th street, it’s doors open directly to the convention center. It’s convenient for those in town for a conference or hanging out in the red river district. And there are plenty of reasons to lure yourself over to Austin Taco Project. The main one, it’s fun and delicious. I was immediately attracted to the vaulted ceilings, cool light fixtures, and a pretty tray of cocktails that was waiting for me when I was invited to attend a special media preview.
On the taco menu you’ll find traditional items like the Baha x Austin made with beer battered fish, cabbage, and fresno chilis. But you’ll also find nontraditional items like the Dubai made with chicken tikka, green curry raita, and pickled grapes wrapped in a saffron tortilla. For some reason, it just works and that’s half the fun. They also feature a local musician every night of the week, so it’s a great reason to go catch some tunes, eat your dinner, and drink the night away right in Downtown Austin!
