Pacific Rim Sushi & Yakitori Lounge – Austin Japanese Sports Bar.
We gathered at the Pacific Rim Sushi & Yakitori Lounge in North Austin for our monthly food blogger happy hour. Which is probably one of the few times a month where I’m in good company with like-minded people who don’t mind if I take pictures of everything 10 times before letting anyone dig in.
Pacific Rim Sushi & Yakitori Lounge is located off Burnet Road (across the road from Highland Lanes Bowling). It’s situated in a busy shopping center that has seen a revival in recent years and has become the gateway to the Burnet Road district which is quickly growing to be one of Austin’s up and coming neighborhoods. With shopping, eateries, breweries and more, you can find everything you need on this street.
One of my favorite discoveries of the night was that the owners of Pacific Rim Sushi & Yakitori Lounge also own Maiko a Sushi Bar Downtown on the same block as my office. I love their bento boxes, so I was happy to hear they now have this Yakitori restaurant up North.
We tried a little bit of everything and started with $2 off cocktails and wine, and $3 off any beer or sake. Then came out the sake mac and cheese, which was an instant favorite of mine. Talk about ooey gooey cheesy goodness with an asian kick, and at only $6 on the happy hour menu you can’t go wrong!
They offer Yakitori Happy Hour ($3.50-$4.50) which features an array of options like skewered vegetables, chicken, and shrimp. Another favorite was the tuna and avocado nachos. It was simple and felt very balanced between the fresh cuts of fish and the fattiness of the avocado. And there was the slightest hint of spice to it that made my mouth really happy with the flavor combination. Definitely can’t wait to eat that again!
The evening ended with a debut of their new menu item called Japanese Hot Rocks plus additional selections like Wagyu Beef and Duck Breast to Scallops and Salmon. The concept is simple and fun. They bring out a Japanese Hot Stone to your table with your choice of protein or vegetables and you cook it at your table with the hot stone. We were gifted by Owner Benny himself showing us how it’s properly done, and we sampled the Shrimp, Wagyu Beef, Scallops, Mushrooms and Asparagus.
Everything we tasted was delicious. High quality with great flavor! Perfect for date night or to catch the game with some friends, I’m pretty sure you can find a reason or two to go to Pacific Rim Sushi & Yakitori.
Definitely check them out for Happy Hour if that’s your thing, and when you go, tell them Dine With Shayda sent you!
