Mexican Food Al Fresco at Fresas South First Reading Time: 3 minutes

What: Fresa’s, an Austin original, offers a modern take on the classic Mexican chicken al carbón.

Where: South First- 1703 South First, Austin, TX 78704, North Lamar- 915 North Lamar, Austin, TX 78703

When: South First- Sunday to Wednesday: 11am–10pm, Thursday to Saturday: 11am–11pm,
North Lamar- Daily 8am -10pm.

Why: Fresas has made a name for itself in Austin offering wood-fired authentic chicken dishes from their North Lamar location. It wasn’t until this past year that Fresas expanded their locations to include a beautiful patio space off of South First, which in addition to the expansion, offers a larger menu as well.

The first thing you’ll notice are the iconic bright colors that Fresas has branded itself with, there are large trees on the property that create a nice shaded patio experience. You can also choose to dine in or order cocktails and drinks from their full bar. Basically, when you come to Fresas expect excellent food, excellent vibes, and an overall excellent experience.

On the menu, you’ll see they still offer their famous wood-fired grilled meals, like the Achiote & Citrus Chicken, and the Chimichurri Skirt Steak. They also offer tacos, bowls, salads and quesadillas very similarly to North Lamar.

But at South First, you can take advantage of an expanded dessert and drinks menu. They also make their own rotating seasonal flavors of ice cream which come in flavors like banana cream pie, cookie butter swirl, and honey pepita crunch.

A good patio isn’t hard to find, however, a great patio, which draws you in with its love for food and hospitality doesn’t come easy. And I believe Fresas has given Austin a little treat on South First that I hope you will go explore and enjoy the next time you’re looking for a place to dine out at.
